Management plan

A management plan based on a decent study is the basis of every successful forestation project.

The management plan is THE guideline for everyone who's involved in the project and is a tool for a close control when implementing maintenance.

It stipulates clearly the objectives and responsibilities of every party involved in the project. It can function as a contract and it's a literature source for subjects directly related to the project. In other words.....

...It is one of the most essential reports of a forestry project...

DHForest is skilled and experienced in writing management plans for forestry projects.

The management plan is written according to the objectives of our client. You decide your objectives and we translate these in sylvicultural objectives, fitting the management plan completely to your likings.

All management plans are as unique as the plantation it is written for and will be, in great extend, supported by visual information, like maps, tables and figures.

Along with the standard chapters of a report such as introduction, summary, conclusions, etc. a management control report elaborated by DHForest consists of the following:

Objectives

To lay down a firm red line, the objectives of a project are of great importance. The objectives are set in close cooperation of our clients and are stated in the management plan to insure that all those involves in the project have knowledge of the objectives so that they can live and work by them.

Description of the area

A complete description of the area is included in the report and holds detailed information about for example the following:

  • location
  • Land use
  • Climate
  • Soil / Fertility
  • Drainage system
  • Topography

Description of activities

To insure quality of work, a detailed description of all activities is presented. Our opinion is that a management plan does not only serve as a planning tool, but as well as a piece of literature that can be used for employee training or guiding.

Description of species

In many projects one species dominates the complete area of the project. Detailed information on the species therefore is of great importance to insure profound knowledge of the characteristics with all the people involved in the project.

Monitoring

The monitoring activities, the methods of implementation and their objectives are explained in detail to serve as literature to all those involved.

Yield prognoses

Based on the soil study, DHForests' experience and data of plantation-growth on similar soils a yield prognoses is projected. This yield prognoses is a solid initial estimation but will be subject to adjustment, according to the yearly measurements that will follow in the years ahead.

Infrastructure

To insure quality road- and drainage-construction and maintenance, a detailed design is elaborated. This design is according to our clients wishes and its forestry uses.

Maintenance

Success in forestry can depend in a great extend on the frequency and quality of the maintenance. Therefore, all maintenance activities are described in detail to prevent any misunderstanding. Besides the description, a complete planning is included of every activity sorted by species, sector and sub-sector (if applicable).

FSC

FSC certification is an objective that many forestry projects share these days. In order to obtain this certification, the management plan must comply with several (extra) chapters. DHForest has gained a lot of experience over the yeas with the FSC principals. At the present time several projects in which DHForest is active, are in the process of certification, and some already obtained the FSC certificate.
